Dated October 16, 1971 Another program from the era when the program was less a game program and more a guide on the opposing team. |
Cool photo of Montreal Canadien goalie Ken Dryden wearing a mask I have seen on him. I figure this was his third ever NHL game from the end of the 70/71 season. |
These team programs were available at the Forum, MLG, Buffalo and Vancouver (I think). They could also be ordered by mail. All the pictures from these magazines were taken from the previous season. So you are right - the picture is from Dryden's game against Buffalo late in the 1970-71 season. He wore the Plante mask in that game - oddly enough against his older brother Dave wearing his own Plante mask. These team roster magazines were sold from the 1969-70 season through the 1972-73 season. The formats changed each year. For a mask geek like me, they are a great source of fantastic pictures...
ReplyDeleteThere were actually game specific programs for the 1971-72 season. These magazines have the blue Leaf logo on a white background with a blue stripe and a drawing of the Gardens on the bottom. They look like the white sweater and were called the 'Maple Leaf Gardens Hockey Magazine'. They were essentially a magazine that changed the stories every month or so while the pages at the centrefold were specific to each night's contest.
Often the team magazine & the Maple Leaf Gardens Hockey Magazine were sold together as a package at the games.
